Repair Services
High-VoltageRewinds.
Motors operating at 13.2 kV and above demand specialist expertise, equipment, and materials. REM delivers precision high-voltage rewind services using Class H insulation systems, VPI technology, and rigorous testing for the most demanding industrial applications.
Specialist Capability
Not Every Shop Can Do This Work.
High-voltage rewinds above 13.2 kV require form-wound coils, Class H or better insulation systems, VPI resin processing, and hi-pot testing at voltage levels that most repair shops are neither equipped nor certified to handle. REM's New Haven facility has the equipment, expertise, and documented test procedures to perform these rewinds correctly — and prove it with traceable test reports.
What We Repair
High-Voltage. Every Design.
REM rewinds high-voltage motors across all major design types — from large utility-grade induction motors to synchronous machines and custom-engineered designs for critical industrial applications.
High-Voltage Induction Motors
Large AC induction motors operating at 13.2 kV and above for utilities, refineries, mills, and heavy manufacturing — rewound with form-wound coils and Class H insulation systems rated for the application voltage class.
Synchronous Motors & Generators
Synchronous machines including both stator and field winding repairs — requiring precise winding geometry, matched insulation systems, and excitation compatibility verification before return to service.
Wound Rotor & Custom Designs
Wound rotor motors and custom-engineered high-voltage designs — including obsolete or legacy machines where OEM support is no longer available and exact replication of the original winding geometry is required.
Our Rewind Process
Rigorous. Documented. Verified.
Every high-voltage rewind follows a disciplined process — from detailed incoming analysis through advanced rewinding with VPI treatment to full system verification and documented test results at the appropriate voltage class.
Incoming Analysis
Detailed electrical testing including surge, hi-pot, insulation resistance, and core-loss testing to determine full motor condition — establishing a baseline record of failure modes before any work begins.
Core & Component Preparation
Cores are stripped, cleaned, and thoroughly inspected for hot spots, lamination damage, and electrical losses. Slot cell and wedge condition are documented before new insulation is installed.
Advanced Rewinding & VPI
Form-wound coils are installed using Class H or better insulation systems and precision winding techniques designed to withstand the electrical and thermal stresses of high-voltage operation. VPI resin processing maximizes dielectric strength and moisture resistance.
Mechanical & Structural Checks
Bearings, shafts, and housings are inspected, machined, or replaced as needed. Alignment and vibration checks eliminate root causes of premature bearing failure and mechanical stress on windings.
Full System Verification & Documentation
Hi-pot and surge testing at the appropriate voltage class, vibration analysis, and loaded/no-load run testing. A complete documented test report is delivered with every rewound motor before it returns to service.
Beyond the Shop
Field Support for High-Voltage Assets
High-voltage motors require careful handling at every stage — removal, transport, reinstallation, and commissioning all carry risk if not executed correctly. REM's field service team handles the full lifecycle so nothing is left to chance.
Removal & Rigging
On-site removal and rigging for large high-voltage motors — with the equipment, experience, and documentation to handle machines that require crane coordination and specialized transport.
Reinstallation & Alignment
Laser alignment and vibration verification during reinstallation to ensure the motor is properly coupled and seated before energization — protecting the rewind investment from day one.
New Motor Supply
When replacement makes more sense than a rewind, REM sources new medium- and high-voltage motors from trusted manufacturers — evaluating total cost of ownership and lead time before making a recommendation.
Why REM
The Capability Most Shops Don't Have
High-voltage rewind capability requires a specific combination of equipment, materials, and certified test procedures. REM has all three — and the documented results to prove it.
